Talking to somebody who does not share your language
A relative, a colleague, somebody you met travelling. Neither of you needs to learn anything, and neither of you needs an account.

The whole thing
Choose Chat, pick the language you read in, and send them the link. They pick theirs when they arrive. Then you both write normally and both read normally.
Leave the studying language set to nothing. Everything about learning stays out of the way when nobody has asked for it.
Why it is easier than a translation app
Neither of you is copying text into a second app and back. Nobody has to remember which direction to translate in, and nobody is reading a language they do not speak.
It works on a phone with nothing installed, which matters when the other person is not going to download anything to talk to you.
If it is going to be a habit
Sign in and keep the room. It stays at the same link, so the conversation is where you left it next week, and the limit on how much can be said in it goes up.
Nothing expires, and either of you can delete the conversation whenever you want.
