Cross Convo is a chat room that translates as people write, with tools for somebody learning the language they are reading. Using it means agreeing to what is on this page.

An account is an email address you can receive mail at. Keep access to it: anyone who can read that inbox can sign in as you, because a sign-in link is all it takes.

You may close your account at any time, and we may close one that breaks these terms.

Your messages stay yours. We store them so the room works, send them to be translated, and do nothing else with them. We do not use them to train anything.

You are responsible for what you send, and for having the right to send it. Do not use Cross Convo to harass anybody, to break the law, or to send other people’s private information.

A profile page is public once you publish it, and we may list it in our tutor directory. It is yours: what is on it, and whether it is up at all. Publish nothing you would not put your name to, and nothing that is not yours to publish.

You can unpublish or delete it at any time, on any plan. We may take one down if it breaks these terms, and will tell you why.

A room opens to whoever has its code. That is the arrangement unless you change it, and it means anybody you give the code to can pass it on. Treat a code as the key it is.

A room you keep can be set to ask first. Then letting somebody in, or not, is your decision and yours alone, and you do not owe anybody a reason. A link that skips the door works for whoever holds it, so it is worth handing out as carefully as the code.

We do not check who is knocking and we do not vet anybody on your behalf. A name is whatever the person typed.

A lesson is a room you made and it comes with the tools to teach in: you can correct what a student wrote, put words into their review, read the lesson back, and see what they keep getting wrong in it. All of it is limited to that room.

What you write into a student’s review is yours to stand behind, and the same goes for a correction. The room does not check them and neither do we.

Any reading of a lesson is worked out by a machine from what was typed in it. It is a prompt for the person teaching, not an assessment, and it is not a record to hold anybody to.

You may put a room or your page on a site you control. The people who arrive through it are using Cross Convo, so what they send counts against your allowance and these terms cover them as they cover you.

Do not present it as something it is not. You are welcome to remove our name from what your visitors see, which is what the embed does, and not welcome to tell them it is somebody else’s product.

Every message costs money to translate, so there are ceilings, and they are shown in the app rather than hidden here. Automating the service, reselling it, or working around those ceilings is not allowed.

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance and can be cancelled at any time, which stops the next payment and leaves the current month running to its end. We do not refund part months, and we will not charge you more without telling you first.

Prices can change. If one changes for a plan you are on, you will hear before it does.

Translations, corrections and pronunciations are produced by a language model. They are usually good and sometimes wrong. Do not rely on them where being wrong matters: medical, legal, financial or safety-critical conversations are not what this is for.

Cross Convo is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, that messages will always be delivered, or that anything stored will survive forever, though we try on all three.

Where the law allows it, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months. Nothing here limits rights you have that cannot be limited.

These terms can change. The date at the top says when they last did, and material changes will be told to account holders by email.
